As an industrial photographer in South Africa, we often pack our bags and fly to remote places like the Northern Cape via Johannesburg. Our mission – solar plant industrial photography of the Aggeneys solar farm.
Biotherm Energy, a Power Africa Partner (driven by USAID) developed the 40 MW solar PV power plant at Aggeneys.
Aggeneys (place of water) is a mining town approximately one hundred kilometers east of Carolusberg on the road between Springbok and Pofadder. The area is rich in copper, zinc, silver, and lead.

Solar panels in dusty areas such as the Northern Cape needs regular cleaning to prevent the accumulation and compaction of dirt that can lead to permanent panel damage.



PPE Solar Farms South Africa
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) is designed to minimize exposure to system hazards. Standard PPE needed when working on a solar plant include safety footwear (steel capped shoes), longsleeved UV shirts or tops, and hard hats. Additional PPE includes safety glasses, fire-rated clothing, arc flash protection, and hot gloves.




Aggeneys Things To Do Northern Cape
1. Goegap Nature Reserve
The Goegap Nature Reserve with its granite peaks and sandy plains is dominated by Carolusberg, the highest point in the area. Goegap’s There is an enormous collection of succulents endemic to the area. Bird lovers will enjoy the more than 92 recorded bird species.
2. Riemvasmaak
Visit the Riemvasmaak Hot Springs, which invites visitors to relax in the natural wonder of these therapeutic waters below towering cliffs of 80 meters high.
Riemvasmaak is close to the Namibian border and covers a massive area made up of imposing mountains, extensive desert plains, and miles of wilderness.
Riemvasmaak MTB Trail
This phenomenal area has 7500 hectares of mountain biking bliss! There is a dedicated mountain biking trail to ride on, with different circular routes that vary from 6 to 71 kilometers.
3. Augrabies National Park
The Dassie Trail is easy to do with children, making it popular with families. The self-guided 5km trail begins at the park’s main camp and takes hikers on a circular route that moves from one geological feature to the next, taking in the Potholes, Swartrante, and Moon Rock.
