Export, Project & Commodity Finance Quick Facts
What is Commodity Finance?
Commodity finance (CF) is the term used for funding the trade of commodities. CF is a type of trade finance (often split into metals and mining), soft commodities and energy. Commodity finance is used by many companies, including producers, traders and commodity lenders.
Companies involved in local or foreign trade often need trade or stock finance to fund the operational cycle. This is due to the fact that these companies must first pay suppliers for stock and raw materials before producing their goods.
What’s the difference between hard and soft commodities?
Commodities are split into two types: hard and soft commodities. Hard commodities are typically natural resources that must be mined or extracted, such as gold and oil, whereas soft commodities are agricultural products or livestock, such as maize, wheat, coffee, sugar, and beef.
South Africa is one of the most mineral-rich countries in the world, with massive gold, diamond, coal, iron ore, and platinum deposits spread across the country. It has vasts amounts of agricultural land and the ideal climate for the production of wheat and maize. Its climate also provides perfect conditions for winemaking.

Interesting Digital Facts
When did digital marketing start?
Nobody expected Newsweek to go totally digital in its production. The digital age as we now know it, began with the Internet and the Web 1.0 platforms of the early 1990s. Do you remember the static world in which users could get the information they were seeking without being able to share it on the web? Interaction on the web consequently did not exist. Hence the only activity was reading of content. The first clickable banner ad launched In 1993. In fact, as a result 1994 Hotwired began to purchase huge numbers of banner ads. Of course resulting in the fist step towards the digital marketing age.
Furthermore, new technology entered into the digital marketplace after 1994. Google being founded in 1998. Blogger followed in 1999. About this time social networking sites began to be birthed and Blackberry launch their own mobile email program. MySpace is one of the first social sites to arrive on the social scene.
